Gebel el-Silsila
At the Nile's narrowest point between Edfu and Kom Ombo, Gebel el-Silsila is ancient Egypt's greatest sandstone quarry. From here came the stone for Karnak and Luxor, and its cliffs still bear chapels, rock stelae, and the temple of Horemheb.
