Montelbaanstoren, Amsterdam

A defensive tower built in 1516 on the Oudeschans canal, once guarding Amsterdam's harbour. Hendrick de Keyser added its decorative spire in 1606, transforming a stern fortification into one of the city's most painted waterside landmarks.
